• Designed and implemented United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) platform for IBM MVS/XA/ESA architecture. This platform is a common software interface between various communications modules and layers. Required MVS operating system modifications.
• Designed and implemented a queued file transfer (FX) for the IBM MVS/XA/ESA architecture using the USDA departmental protocol (DFTP). Code was then ported to run under UNIX, MS/DOS, and Data General AOS/VS operating systems.
• Evaluated implementation of TCP/IP for USDA computer networks.

Network Data Processing Consultant, 1979-1987

• Designed and implemented USDA department protocol (RB) in CMS1100 for Sperry 1100/2200 series computers. This interface was used daily by over 1000 minicomputers. This saved the Forest Service $7,500,000 the first year in communications costs.
• Generated and maintained the largest remote batch configuration in the world using Unisys/Sperry equipment.
• Provided communications and OS 1100/2200 operating systems internals support for a number of federal government sites, including: USDA (nation wide), NOAA (Suitland, Boulder), Census, IRS (Detroit), and USDOE (Sandia, Livermore, Richland).
